Facelift and Necklift FAQs

  • Candidates for facelift and necklifts are typically unhappy with the changes associated with aging in their face and necks. They have lost the heart shape of youth in their face and their facial appearance has become more square. They are in good health; and have realistic expectations about how they will look after surgery.
  • To see if you are a candidate for surgery with Dr. Kelly, call 305-595-2969 to book your consultation.
  • Kelly recommends that all patients rest for at least 24 hours immediately after surgery. Patients typically see a significant decrease in swelling and bruising after 7-10 days.
  • The day after surgery, patients will have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Kelly to check them and be given instructions on how to optimize the healing process. They can shower the next day and take pain medicine as prescribed. Strenuous activity and dying of the hair should be avoided should be avoided for 3 weeks after surgery.
  • Kelly uses fibrin glue to help speed recovery after surgery, most surgeons do not. Fibrin glue stops bleeding during surgery, eliminates the need for drains, and helps minimize bruising. In most cases, the only bruising that occurs is at the site of fat grafting where fibrin glue cannot be applied. Bruising is nearly always gone by 7-10 days after surgery.
  • The incisions under the chin, and in front and along the back of the ear, are rarely noticeable within a week or two after surgery. The incision along the hairline at the scalp behind the ear stays red longer but ultimately should also heal with an imperceptible scar. Fortunately, that hairline scar is almost always covered by the patient’s hair so it is not visible while the redness is fading.
